Late last year, we reached out to offshore engineers, scientists, and specialists in tribology to take part in a brief survey for the CETP MORE Project. Your response was incredible, and today, we’re excited to share the results!
The aim of the survey was simple yet ambitious: to bridge knowledge from the offshore oil and gas sector to support the emerging offshore renewable energy industry, particularly when it comes to wear and corrosion-resistant coatings. Thanks to your participation, we’ve gained valuable insights that will help shape new qualification testing methodologies—designed for real-world challenges and improved sustainability.

Here are some highlights from the survey:
Over 70% of respondents reported the need for improved standardization and testing for coatings in offshore environments.
The majority of respondents see the oil and gas sector as a key knowledge source, and support its experience being transferred to offshore renewables.
Respondents emphasized the importance of realistic testing environments—going beyond lab conditions to ensure coatings perform under actual offshore stresses.
These insights confirm the need for MORE’s mission: to foster materials and coatings that are resilient, efficient, and environmentally robust, helping both renewables and traditional maritime industries thrive.
