Late last year, we reached out to offshore engineers, scientists, and specialists in tribology to take part in a brief survey for the CETP MORE Project. Your response was incredible, and today, we’re excited to share the results!

The aim of the survey was simple yet ambitious: to bridge knowledge from the offshore oil and gas sector to support the emerging offshore renewable energy industry, particularly when it comes to wear and corrosion-resistant coatings. Thanks to your participation, we’ve gained valuable insights that will help shape new qualification testing methodologies—designed for real-world challenges and improved sustainability.

🔍 What Did We Learn?

Here are some highlights from the survey:

  • Over 70% of respondents reported the need for improved standardization and testing for coatings in offshore environments.

  • The majority of respondents see the oil and gas sector as a key knowledge source, and support its experience being transferred to offshore renewables.

  • Respondents emphasized the importance of realistic testing environments—going beyond lab conditions to ensure coatings perform under actual offshore stresses.

These insights confirm the need for MORE’s mission: to foster materials and coatings that are resilient, efficient, and environmentally robust, helping both renewables and traditional maritime industries thrive.

The full survey data is now available and can be explored here:👉

Whether you’re a researcher, industry partner, or simply passionate about sustainable offshore technology, we encourage you to dive into the findings. They offer a compelling look into current challenges, knowledge gaps, and where the industry wants to go next.

💡 What’s Next?

These results will feed directly into the development of new qualification testing methodologies within the MORE Project. By continuing to collaborate, we’re ensuring that future offshore infrastructure is not only innovative but also tested for reality.

A huge thank you to everyone who participated and shared the survey. This project thrives on the expertise and experience of our community—so stay tuned for more updates, and don’t hesitate to get involved.
